Christian Worker's Busy Year

A questionnaire sent by Siân Rumbelow to Independent churches in West Glamorgan showed that there are 21 Sunday Schools and two youth clubs ( with 188 children and 56 young people) within the Association. After this, a meeting was held to draw up a programme of activity for Sian.  

"After starting my work I became aware that there was little contact between the Chapels in the Association and so in the months that followed I found that one of my priorities became the Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot Youth Newsletter" says Sian. "This needed to be accessible to both the children and their leaders, it needed to be colourful, informative and have plenty of pictures without being too overcrowded. The first of these newsletters was sent out in September 2008 and at three-monthly intervals after that. A competition was held to design a logo for a youth worker. This was won by Oliver Jordan from Ebenezer Chapel and I now use the logo on letterheads and on my T-shirt.  I have also created a Facebook Club called CYFAC-GM to help in improving communication.                                  

"My job involves visiting Chapels that have children and getting to know them through attending Sunday schools and Youth clubs and also through being involved in Chapel Services. I have had the chance to visit many of these groups and hope to visit more this year. I attend the Youth clubs in Bethel Sgeti and Capel y Nant Clydach once a month and I have visited the Sunday schools of Hermon Brynaman, Capel y Nant Clydach, Nebo Felindre, Tabernacl Treforys, Brynteg Gorseinon and Ebeneser Dunvant. I have also been involved in services in Brynteg Gorseinon, Capel yr Alltwen, Soar Maesyrhaf, Tabernacl Pontardawe and Ebeneser Dunvant.

"Another part of my job entails the production of resource packs that can be used in youth work and to date the following packs have been produced, HIV, Christian Holidays, The South Africa Appeal, The Environment and War and Peace.
