Courses offered through the College of the Welsh Independents:
A Basic course
This course includes four modules :
Worship and Mission
Foundations of the Faith
Biblical themes
The history and particularity of our traditions
Written work is not essential but worksheets may be completed if students wish to proceed to further coursesd.
B Lay Preachers’ Certificate
This course has four units:
Interpreting the Bible
Worship
Preaching
The Church and its Mission
Written work is expected, inclduing essays, worship services, and sermons. Certificates are awarded to those who complete the course successfully and this is recognized by the County Union.
C Welsh Independents’ College Certificate
This course is intended as training for Christian ministry. It extends over three years. Three units are studied annually in classes that are held in various local centres. Written work is expected and a College Certificate is awarded to those who complete the course successfully.
D DIPLOMA IN THEOLOGY
If desired, by studying three further modules, a student gan be awarded a Diploma of the University of Wales.
The following units are required for a Diploma:
· Interpreting Scripture, including units on the Old and New Testaments.
· Church History. including units on the Christian history of Wales and on Nonconformist Principles
· Christian Doctrine, inclduing units on the foundations of the faith and Christian ethics
· Pastoral studies, including units on worship and preaching, pastoral care and mission and communication.
E DEGREE IN THEOLOGY
Students who wish to study for a BTh or BD may do so through the College. After successfully completing the Diploma, students are required to complete six further modules to be awarded a degree.
A number of training courses are currently being held in Swansea but others can be arranged in convenient locations, for example, on Christian Caring, Preaching Today, Encouraging Change, then contact Noel Davies for more information.
