News from the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales about their new project, 'Capeli Cymru'
Capeli Cymru is the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales’ exciting new project to understand, document, and respond to the growing loss of Wales’ Nonconformist heritage.
Supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Heritage in Need: Places of Worship initiative, the 15-month development phase aims to map the current state of chapel buildings, archives, objects and associated heritage.
Our findings will help shape better support for congregations, denominations, communities and private owners – ensuring this rich heritage is safeguarded for future generations. This project will also celebrate the pivotal role chapels have played in shaping Wales’ religious, cultural, political, and educational life over the past 300 years.
If you would like to take part in our national “census” of chapels or join workshops on the challenges of caring for chapel heritage, please contact capelicymru@rcahmw.gov.uk
