The World Council of Churches encourages us to stand against rape and violence by showing our colours, literally.
In every country, gender-based violence is a tragic reality. This violence is often hidden, and victims are often silent, fearing stigma and further violence.

We all have a responsibility to speak out against violence, to ensure that women and men, boys and girls, are safe from rape and violence in homes, schools, work, streets – everywhere in our society. This is a real problem here in Wales today, and around the world.
The campaign is simple but profound. Wear black on Thursdays. Every Thursday. That's it. You can wear a pin to declare that you are part of the global movement that resists attitudes and practices that allow rape and violence. Show your respect for women who are resilient and strong in the face of injustice and violence. Encourage others to join you. Together we can show that this is not acceptable and that things need to change for the better.
Black has often been used with negative racial connotations, but in this campaign, black is used as a positive color that shows resistance and resilience.
Share any photos of you and others in black with ‘Thursdays in Black’ on X, Facebook and Instagram, using the hashtags #ThursdaysinBlack and #WCC!
