The situation in the Middle East can't be resolved through violence and warfare, according to the leaders of one of Wales’s main Christian denominations.
At a meeting in Aberystwyth today (7 March 2026), the Council of the Union of Welsh Independent Churches called for a full and lasting ceasefire in the Middle East. The Union's President, Owain Llŷr Evans, also called on Christians to raise their voices to insist that international law is respected.

'We declare, as representatives the Union of Welsh Independent Churches, that the use of violence or warfare cannot be justified as a means of resolving the troubles of the Middle East. We are saddened to see ordinary people being targeted and killed, and the conflict spreading.
'We call for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East. International law must be safeguarded in order to promote reconciliation, security, and the hope of lasting peace.'
The Union’s President, Owain Llŷr Evans, added: “As Christians, we've no excuse for failing to raise our voices for justice in the world.
